Does this restore quality the AVIF lost?
No, and nothing can. PNG only guarantees that nothing further is lost. Detail AV1 discarded when the AVIF was encoded is gone for good.
Does the alpha channel survive?
Yes, fully. PNG has a real alpha channel and the conversion keeps it intact, which is the main reason to pick PNG over JPG here.
Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
