JPEG XL to PNG Converter
Convert JPEG XL — a newer format with excellent compression — into PNG, lossless, and it keeps transparency. Runs entirely in your browser.
Why convert JPEG XL to PNG?
PNG is the right choice when the JXL holds a graphic, a scan, or anything with transparency, and when the file is headed into an editor. It is also the safe target if you are not sure what is inside: PNG handles alpha and flat colour without the compromises JPEG imposes.
What changes when JPEG XL becomes PNG
Transparency is preserved. A losslessly encoded JXL converts with no change to the image at all; a lossy one keeps exactly what it already had. The PNG will usually be a good deal larger, since JPEG XL is one of the more efficient formats and PNG is one of the least.
Why this one is different
Every other JPEG XL to PNG converter uploads your files to their server, which is why they cap file sizes and ask you to sign up. This one does the work on your own machine, so it can afford not to.

Questions
How do I convert JPEG XL to PNG?
Drop your JPEG XL files onto the box above and each one is converted to PNG straight away. Then download the results, individually or together as a ZIP. There is no upload step and no account.
Is the conversion lossless?
The PNG side always is. Whether the whole trip is lossless depends on the JXL: if it was encoded losslessly the pixels come out identical, and if it was lossy, PNG preserves precisely what the JXL contained.
What about high bit depth?
PNG can carry 16 bits per channel, so material decoded at a higher depth is not automatically truncated to 8 bits the way JPEG would force it to be.
Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in this tab. Your files are never sent to a server, which is why this still works if you disconnect from the network after the page has loaded.
