JPG to PNG Converter
Convert JPG — the format everything can open — into PNG, lossless, and it keeps transparency. Runs entirely in your browser.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
Two honest reasons: you want an alpha channel to work with, or you are about to start editing and want every save from here to be lossless. There is a third, less honest one — a form that insists on PNG — and this handles that too.
What changes when JPG becomes PNG
The image is identical to what the JPEG decoded to. It will be considerably larger, often three to ten times, because PNG stores photographic detail without discarding any of it. Converting does not undo JPEG's artefacts; it freezes them in place losslessly. EXIF and colour profile carry through.
Why this one is different
Every other JPG to PNG converter uploads your files to their server, which is why they cap file sizes and ask you to sign up. This one does the work on your own machine, so it can afford not to.

Questions
How do I convert JPG to PNG?
Drop your JPG files onto the box above and each one is converted to PNG straight away. Then download the results, individually or together as a ZIP. There is no upload step and no account.
Does this improve the image quality?
No. It preserves exactly what the JPEG contained, artefacts included. The benefit is that further edits and re-saves will not stack new losses on top of the old ones.
Does the PNG have a transparent background now?
No — a JPEG has no transparency to recover, so the result is fully opaque. What changes is that PNG can hold transparency, so you can cut a background out in an editor and save it without leaving the format.
Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in this tab. Your files are never sent to a server, which is why this still works if you disconnect from the network after the page has loaded.
