HEIC to PNG Converter
Convert HEIC — the format iPhones save photos in — into PNG, lossless, and it keeps transparency. Runs entirely in your browser.
Why convert HEIC to PNG?
PNG is the one to pick when the HEIC is a screenshot, a scan, or something you are about to edit repeatedly — it is lossless, so every save after this one costs nothing. It is also the safest thing to hand to an old application: essentially everything written in the last twenty-five years opens a PNG without argument.
What changes when HEIC becomes PNG
Expect the file to get much bigger. Five to ten times the HEIC is normal for a photograph, because PNG discards nothing and photographic grain compresses badly. For a photo that is usually the wrong trade and JPG is the better target; for flat colour and text it is exactly right.
Why this one is different
Every other HEIC to PNG converter uploads your files to their server, which is why they cap file sizes and ask you to sign up. This one does the work on your own machine, so it can afford not to.

Questions
How do I convert HEIC to PNG?
Drop your HEIC files onto the box above and each one is converted to PNG straight away. Then download the results, individually or together as a ZIP. There is no upload step and no account.
Is PNG better quality than JPG here?
It is lossless from this point on, but it cannot recover anything HEVC already threw away when the phone saved the photo. What it buys you is that further edits and re-saves will not compound.
Why is the PNG so much larger?
PNG compresses by finding repetition, and photographs have very little of it — grain and gradient make almost every pixel different from its neighbour. Formats like HEIC and JPG get their size by discarding detail your eye was not using.
Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in this tab. Your files are never sent to a server, which is why this still works if you disconnect from the network after the page has loaded.
