GIF to PNG Converter
Convert GIF — the animated one — into PNG, lossless, and it keeps transparency. Runs entirely in your browser.
Why convert GIF to PNG?
GIF is limited to 256 colours and a single fully transparent colour, which is why anything modern looks poor in it. Converting to PNG gives you full colour and a proper alpha channel — the right first step if you intend to edit the image rather than just look at it.
What changes when GIF becomes PNG
Only the first frame is converted: PNG holds one image and an animated GIF holds many. The colours are unchanged — PNG can store far more than 256, but it cannot invent the ones GIF already discarded. GIF's on-or-off transparency becomes a real alpha channel, so edits you make afterwards can have soft edges, although the existing ones stay as hard as they were.
Why this one is different
Every other GIF to PNG converter uploads your files to their server, which is why they cap file sizes and ask you to sign up. This one does the work on your own machine, so it can afford not to.

Questions
How do I convert GIF to PNG?
Drop your GIF files onto the box above and each one is converted to PNG straight away. Then download the results, individually or together as a ZIP. There is no upload step and no account.
My animation became a still image.
PNG holds a single frame, and an animated GIF is a sequence. What you get here is the first of them. If you need the animation, keep the GIF.
Will the colours look better?
No, but they will stop getting worse. GIF already reduced the image to 256 colours and PNG preserves exactly those. What it buys you is room to edit without a second round of colour reduction.
Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in this tab. Your files are never sent to a server, which is why this still works if you disconnect from the network after the page has loaded.
