Why convert TIFF to JPG?

TIFF is what scanners, print shops and archives produce, and the files are enormous — often tens or hundreds of megabytes for a single page. Converting to JPEG is how a scan becomes something you can email, upload to a form, or attach to a claim without running into a size limit.

What changes when TIFF becomes JPG

Quality 85, and a very large reduction in size: a factor of twenty or more is normal for a scanned page. Only the first page is converted — a multi-page TIFF holds several images, and this produces one JPEG from the first of them. Transparency, if the TIFF has any, is flattened onto white.

Why this one is different

Every other TIFF to JPG converter uploads your files to their server, which is why they cap file sizes and ask you to sign up. This one does the work on your own machine, so it can afford not to.

Questions

How do I convert TIFF to JPG?

Drop your TIFF files onto the box above and each one is converted to JPG straight away. Then download the results, individually or together as a ZIP. There is no upload step and no account.

I have a multi-page TIFF. Where did the other pages go?

This converts the first page only. A multi-page scan needs a tool that writes each page out separately, or one that produces a PDF.

Will the scan still be readable?

For text on a page, yes — quality 85 keeps letterforms clean. If you are archiving rather than sending, keep the TIFF as well: it is the original, and JPEG cannot be undone.

Do my files get uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in this tab. Your files are never sent to a server, which is why this still works if you disconnect from the network after the page has loaded.
